I'd like to put together a 2010 JCTRA Street Ride.
I'm looking at two possible dates, Sunday, August 1st and Sunday, August 15th. There's a poll at the start of this thread, please indicate your preference.
Here's an opportunity to dust off the street bike (or any street legal bike)and join us for a day touring the scenic paved backroads of SW Washington. This will be a fun and casual ride.
I'll post the date and more details after everyone has had a chance to chime in on the poll....

Not 100% for sure yet, but I'm leaning toward the 15th...we'll probably need a break from prepping for the poker run by then.

Ok it looks like Sunday, August 15th is the date.
Ross and the guys and I usually meet at the Krispy Kreme on Andreson (across from Costco) at 0900 so let's plan on that and we can ride out from there.
Please come full of fuel and we usually stop and eat lunch someplace along the way.
We can decide where to go depending on the weather and who shows up on the 15th.
See you all there!

Yah, I changed it...August 15th.

No typical route we go all over the place.
If we do the Cougar loop we ride up the gorge and head North through Carson toward St Helens then over to Cougar and then back to Vancouver through Amboy. Lots of little off shoots and side roads in there, a little different route depending on how long and how hard everyone wants to ride.
I like riding down to Astoria via the West Hills, and Vernonia area too. Lots of curvy roads that way. There's a great place to eat lunch down there called the Bowpicker...they serve deep fried Albacore Tuna and it's fantastic.
Tons of places to ride...just depends on the weather and how hard and far everyone wants to ride. I tend to like to ride till around noon, eat lunch and then ride the rest of the afternoon away... |

Not sure how the rest of you feel about this, but in my experience riding in temps in the mid 90's and above is a lot like riding in a hair dryer...so as far as I'm concerned the JCTRA Street Ride is postponed due to the extreme weather forecast for Sunday.
We can settle on another date soon...

Sorry Neil, and anyone else who still want's to go. 98 degree temps don't add up to a lot of fun for me on a bike. I always feel a little vulnerable riding in a tee shirt and shorts...good way to leave a big messy stain on the road someplace.
I figure we can retry in a few weeks.
I might be convinced to try a short ride early in the morning for two or three hours though... I also thought about going on an evening/night ride Saturday if the work party doesn't beat us to death...

| I'm game to go. Would like to leave at 8am if anyone is interested. I left Neil a msg on his cell. Maybe a 3-4 hr ride then head for the air-conditioning. I'll check on-line in the morning to see if anyone else is going. scoob |
